Discussion: Animals

In this activity, Miss Cullen interactively starts the day and introduces the four parts of Circle Time: Special Helper, Calendar, Today’s Weather and the Theme Discussion.  You may click the this link or the "Extra Content" button about to watch the video.

After Miss Cullen introduces a part of Circle Time she announces and holds up a “Teacher Helper Time” sign. You should pause the video and lead the class offline through that part of Circle Time. When you are done click play on the video to continue to the next part of Circle Time.

Review - Together we sing the “Circle Time” song and the “Hi There” song. Look at the calendar and sing the “Days of the Week” song. This is a great time to review the days of the week, months of the year and the number of the day. Then check the weather and compare it to your weather dial.  Now Miss Cullen is going to tell us all about Sheep. Sheep make the sound Baaaa. Can you say that with Miss Cullen? Baaaa. Next, look at the pictures of sheep with the children. Sheep have wool- that is the fuzzy coat that surrounds them. It keeps them warm in the winter but they are shaved each spring so they don’t get too hot in the summer. Did you know that a baby lamb can hear and recognize the sound of their mother’s voice? Sheep and lambs eat grass. Click here or the "Extra Content" button and watch my video as we do our Circle Time together!

Activity Description: God Made All the Animals

Miss Cullen announces it is “Worship Time” and leads the class interactively in Christian discussion, story or activity related to the day’s theme. After the video is over you have the option lead a simple talk about the message, and even supplement it with other Christian story or activity.  Click here to watch a video and learn how to lead Worship Time!

God made all of the animals. Listen to this Bible verse:

Genesis: Chapter 1 Verse 9
“And God saw that it was good.”

God knows that everything that he made was good. Look at the different animals that Miss
Cullen holds up and know that God made this animal and that it is good. The first photo is of a
frog. Frogs are green and say ribbit. Next is a dog. This dog is brown and says ruff, bark or
woof. Next is a duck. Ducks go quack and this one is yellow with a little orange. And finally this
is a cat. This cat is orange and black with a pink nose. Cats say meow.
Now pray with Miss Cullen thanking Him for all of the animals that He made. “God thank you for
today. Thank you for loving us and keeping us safe. Thank you so much for all the animals that
you made. We love you! Amen.”

Art & Science

Activity Description - Art: Sheep

Miss Cullen announces it is “Art Time” and holds up the “Teacher Helper Time” sign. At this time you stop the video then lead the class offline through an art project related to today's weather theme. Remember to check the prep video first to learn what materials you will need!  Click here to watch a video on how to lead Art & Science Activities!

Cut out the shape of a sheep body and a sheep head. Give these to your child and have him/her glue the head onto the body however they like. Next, have your child decorate the sheep using crayons to draw a face and color. Or your child can use cotton balls to make the sheep fluffy. Your child can use the cotton balls intact and just glue them directly on or you can have your child stretch them out before gluing them on. Another option for decorating is to mix glue and shaving cream together and have your child paint with that. Once it dries it will be

puffy.

Pigs – Let’s talk about pigs with Miss Cullen. Did you know that pigs are very smart? And notice the pig’s snout – that is his nose. Pigs use their snout to dig in the soil and find food. They also have an excellent sense of smell. Baby pigs are called Piglets. Pigs need to be near mud and water so they can cool off. By rolling around in the mud and water, they can cool off. But overall, pigs are very clean animals.  Click here or the "Extra Content" button and watch my video as we do our Circle Time together!

Today we are going to talk about a man named Daniel, a king, some lions, an angel and God. There was a man named Daniel. He loved God very much and every day he prayed to God. There was also a King that liked Daniel. He asked Daniel to be his helper. But that made some of the King’s friends angry and they decided to try and hurt Daniel. So the King’s friends said to the King. “You are a great King. You should make a rule that everyone should pray to you. If anyone should pray to his own God, he should be put into the den with the lions.” And the King wanted to feel important so he made that rule. But Daniel didn’t pray to the King, he prayed to God. So the King’s friends told on Daniel and the King had to follow the new rule and sent Daniel to the lions’ den with the hungry lions. Since the lions were hungry, they were going to eat Daniel. That is exactly what the King’s friends wanted. The King though was very sad about this. So the next morning he ran to the lions’ den. “Daniel, Daniel are you all right,” he called. And Daniel was alright. While in the lions’ den, Daniel prayed to God for help and God sent an angel to close the mouths of the lions so they could not hurt Daniel. Daniel still believed and trusted in God despite being sent to the lions’ den. Now let’s pray with Miss Cullen.

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for today. Thank you for this wonderful story about Daniel who loved you so much. Please help us to be just like Daniel and love you and trust you - that you will be with us always. We love you. Amen.

Bears – Miss Cullen is going to show us some pictures of bears. The first bear is running. Bears are big, heavy and powerful, but they can move very quickly. They only have okay hearing and can’t see very well but they have a good sense of smell. In the next picture, the bear has a fish in his mouth and he is in the water. Bears like to eat plants, honey, insects, small animals and fish. In the next photo there is a bear sleeping. Bears spend the entire winter sleeping. This is called hibernating. Can you say that with Miss Cullen? Hi-ber-nat-ing. And these are baby bears. They are called cubs and grow up pretty fast. A cub will spend between one and two years with their mom before going off on their own.

Activity Description - Art: Make a Polar Bear

Miss Cullen announces it is “Art Time” and holds up the “Teacher Helper Time” sign. At this time you stop the video then lead the class offline through an art project related to today's weather theme. Remember to check the prep video first to learn what materials you will need!  Click here to watch a video on how to lead Art & Science Activities!

Click here or click "prep video" above to watch my video and then have your child make a Polar Bear. Click here for a pattern of a polar bear. Cut it out on white construction paper of poster board. Spread some glue and shaving cream in a tray or bowl and mix it up. Have your child decorate the polar bear with lots and lots of the shaving cream and glue mixture. The more that is put on the better because as it dries, it will make the polar bear all puffy.

Note, you have the flexibility to do a different art activity rather than the suggested idea.
