Today we are going to allow children to use their imagination and pretend that they are a doctor, a nurse or a patient. Set out a bunch of items you’d see in the doctor’s office for the children to play doctor with. Children can become pretty adventurous when they are playing doctor so just make sure you can see them while they are playing. You can set out items such as a stethoscope, bandages, blankets, popsicle sticks, clothes (apron, coat, old shirt), doctor kit if you have one, stuffed animals to use as patients, rubber gloves, a doctor bag (this can just be a reusable bag, basket, brown bag or basket-not plastic) and a clipboard with paper and a pen for them to take notes on.

Prepare a height and weight chart out of butcher paper or use some construction paper. Have the children take turns weighing and measuring themselves. Record each child’s height and weight on the growth chart. Review the numbers with the children. Repeat throughout the next couple months to a year and have the children observe their growth. Explain how doctors and nurses look at the growth chart of children to help determine if they are healthy.
