Engage the children in a conversation about community helpers. Have photos of community helpers out for the children to look at. You can hold up the pictures one at a time and talk about them individually or put them all out and talk about them all together. You can ask questions like this if you’d like: Who are they? What do they do? What are you seeing in these pictures? Why do they have the equipment or tools that they do?

Learn about the letter G with Miss Cullen and Gator. First, Miss Cullen and Gator are going to show the upper and lower case letter G. Then review the sound of the G. Next look at three types of food that start with the letter G: Gatorade, granola, grapefruit. If you have these items at home you can try them with Miss Cullen and discuss what it feels like, tastes like, sounds like and smells like.
Remember, when trying the different foods, it has to go in your mouth but it doesn’t have to stay there. But it is always good to try something new.

Read the Bible Story
You can read from a Children’s Bible, your Bible or use the following story.
A Voice in the Night
1 Samuel 3
When Samuel was a little boy, Hannah brought him to live at the tabernacle. She had promised God that Samuel would serve him all his life. The priest Eli would now take care of Samuel. He would teach Samuel about God.
One night while Samuel was sleeping, he heard a voice say, “Samuel!” He ran to Eli and said, “Here I am am.” But Eli said, “I did not call you.” Then Samuel went back to bed. Samuel heard a voice call his name two more times. Each time, Samuel ran to Eli. Finally, Eli told Samuel, “I think God is speaking to you. Next time, say, ‘Yes LORD, I am listening.” Then Samuel went back to bed.
“Samuel! Samuel!” the voice said again. This time, Samuel answered, “Yes, LORD, I am listening.” From that moment on, Samuel gave messages to God’s people. He was a special prophet of God.
Bible Story Questions & Answers
Talk about what the Bible story was about by asking the children questions. You can decide ahead of time how you want them to answer the questions. I like to have the children raise their hand to answer the question. If they are incorrect that is fine. You can say what the answer is or ask: “Does anyone else have a thought or answer to the question?”

Please help me to listen (children repeat)
and obey you. (children repeat)

We are having fun learning about community helpers today and so I thought it would be fun for children to draw a picture of their favorite community helper. Some children may need some help getting started with drawing a person and you can give them some ideas on how to start drawing. You can say, “Lets start with a head. What shape is a head?” After that you can talk to them about drawing a body, like the shape of an oval and then the legs, arms etc. From there they should be okay with getting started and have some ideas on what to add to the body they are drawing.
