Here (click here for a PDF version) is the story of Creation that you can read to children while they are coloring. When they are finished coloring they can use the coloring page to memorize the verse by hanging it their room or on the fridge.
In the Beginning Genesis 1-2
A long time ago there was nothing. Then God spoke: “Let there be light.” And there was light! God called the light day, and he called the darkness night. God
said the light was good. Next, god made the sky, the land and the oceans. God smiled when he saw that everything he made was good. Then God said, “Let there be plants. And trees with fruit and seeds. Let the sun, moon, stars shine in the sky, and let birds and animals appear.” And everything happened just like God said, and it was all good. Then God did something different. He picked up the dust on the ground and made a man. He breathed air into his lungs. He called the man Adam. Then God made a woman. He named her Eve. God made people to be his children. He blessed them and said that what he made was very good. God was happy with everything he made. Then God rested because his work was done.
Prayer: you can say this prayer (or another if you’d like) and have the children repeat it after you. I have put periods in places so you can pause to let them say it after you. Dear God. Thank you for this day. Thank you for making Adam and Eve. Thank you for making the animals. Thank you for making me. I love you God. Amen
